This is the introduction: In K-12 public schools, educators identify students whose native or home language is not English as English language learners (ELLs) or limited English proficient (LEP) students. These students include both foreign-born and U.S.-born students reared speaking a language other than English. ELLs can receive either traditional ESL instruction, which has English as the subject matter, or content-based ESL instruction, which focuses on teaching English through grade-level content. According to History of Teaching English as a Second Language, it states, “Throughout the history of this country we have grappled with the problem of how to teach those who do not speak the common language; we have wrestled with the question of what the common language should be”(National Counsil of Teachers of English, 40). Find research findings regarding topic, and how those finding could impact their instruction within their classroom. Provide thorough discussion/support from at least three research-based sources.
